Why DIY?

There are many roots that stem into my passion for making knives, and among them is the feeling that I carry and keep lit a torch of an ancient tradition and craft- one I do not wish to keep to myself. Since the dawn of time, human beings have needed edged tools to survive and like building fire, tool-making set us apart from any other living organism (and still does to this day). Advances in automation, technology, and production have saturated our minds and destroyed to-do lists in the worst way. Making your own knife is your shot at experiencing the old way of willing something to be, and using your hands to make it so.

I proudly offer bladesmithing and knife instruction classes and structure them on a case by case basis. A consultation in the shop includes assistance with designing a desirable knife for the student's preferences, a deep look into the process of how the knife will be made, and a plan laid out for which parts of the processes the student would like to execute. Sessions last anywhere from 1-3 hours each, and knives can be completed in roughly 1-6 sessions, depending on desired involvement. Class times are extremely flexible to participant's schedule needs. 

Prices start at $550, and non-refundable full payment is required up front. Credit can be utilized as a gift card and applied to any offerings from Cunningham Custom Shop in lieu of instruction. Failing to make a quality knife is an extremely unlikely outcome, but just as well I guarantee that participants will leave my class with a dependable knife, no matter what.
