Antique Sambar Stag Drop Point
This is it folks: the last knife you'll ever need. I'm not calling this a hatchet, but anything shy of knocking down trees this knife will do. Truthfully speaking, it will knock down a hefty tree if you have the time for the job (or if your life depends on it) though of course the hatchet would save you time... I digress.
I forged it to shape from a 5160 2" bar that was originally a John Deere load control shaft which guarantees a consistent and predictable quality of the metallurgy. Once shaped and rough ground, the blade is triple quenched in Texaco type A quenchant and triple tempered, among a few other heat treat steps that I'm willing to discuss if one cares to inquire (including post-forge normalizing, annealing, freezing, etc). The free hand convex grind is razor sharp and it measures 3 1/2" from tip to brass guard which is staked and soldered in place. Handle includes black, maroon, white and grey vulcanized fiber spacers with a repurposed antique cutlery sambar stag handle with original German silver cap still in place. Overall length measures 7 5/8" and it comes in one of my custom arrow-stitched pouch sheaths.
