Hawaiian Axis Stag Drop Point
My friends, for years I have known a 3-4" drop point to be a size and shape that can do anything a knife should, so long as the geometry and heat treatment is true.
This knife fits the mold for last-one-you'll-ever need, from the deepest backcountry hunts to the every day user fit for even the toughest jobs on the ranch. I forged it to shape from a 5160 2" bar that was originally a John Deere load control shaft. This is not a gimmick- John Deere's stringnet quality control of their alloys is reputable and the reason for this selection. Once shaped and rough ground, the blade is triple quenched in Texaco type A quenchant and triple tempered, among a few other heat treat steps that I'm willing to discuss if one cares to inquire (including post-forge normalizing, annealing, freezing, etc). The free hand convex grind is razor sharp and it measures 3 1/2" from tip to brass guard which is staked and soldered in place. I went ahead and left some of the true hammermarks on this one- I liked the look and the thickness of the blade was just right for raising hell. Handle includes black, maroon, white and grey vulcanized fiber spacers with a Hawaiian axis stag handle. Overall length measures 8 1/4" and it comes in one of my custom arrow-stitched pouch sheaths. I guarantee my work for life.
