Willamette Valley Walnut Pack Hatchet

My first hatchet! I've been an avid camper for years and always, the first thing I do when I arrive at camp is to break down some wood and get the fire rolling. I can spend hours mezmerized with building, shifting, and just plain staring at fires. It only makes sense that I should make my own campfire companions, and this first edition is a true joy! This project began as 3/8" flat stock 1075 steel and is plasma cut to a rough hatchet shape. The handle and bit are forged out  with a one-two-punch combo on the 50 lb Little Giant and my arm swinging an 8 lb hammer. The bit measures 3 1/2", the head 4 1/2", and full length rings just over 11 1/2". It splits and chops like butter, and I guarantee this thing for life!
